Rockies 10, Cubs 5 (7 inn., rain): Wilin Rosario and Matt McBride homered and host Colorado rallied from an early deficit to win the opener of the three-game series.
Leadoff hitter Dave Sappelt sparked Chicago's three-run first inning with his first major-league home run, and the Cubs led 4-1 before the Rockies answered in the bottom of the third on Tyler Colvin’s two-run triple off Chris Rusin (1-3).
After scoring three runs in the fourth, the Rockies drew clear in the fifth on McBride’s three-run homer off Rafael Solis. Chris Nelson drove in a run in the sixth with one of his three hits before the game was called after a 48-minute rain delay in the middle of the seventh.
Jorge De La Rosa allowed four runs (two earned) over three innings in his second start this season. Carlos Torres (5-3) earned the win in relief for Colorado, which won its second straight after losing nine in a row.
Starlin Castro belted a solo homer in the third for the Cubs, who have dropped seven of their last eight games and need to win four of their final eight contests to avoid 100 losses.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Rosario recorded his fifth consecutive multi-hit game. He leads all NL rookies in home runs (27) and RBI (70). …The Cubs fell to 0-14 against NL West teams on the road. … Colorado INF DJ LeMahieu had three hits and came within a home run of hitting for the cycle.
