Cardinals 4, Padres 3

Tyler Greene hit a two-run homer off Andrew Cashner with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Cardinals rallied to beat the visiting Padres.

Greene’s homer came after the Padres took the lead in the top half of the inning on Jesus Guzman’s two-out, two-run double off Jason Motte.

One of three Cardinal relievers used in the eighth inning, Motte (3-1) retired the Padres in order in the ninth inning.

St. Louis snapped its four-game losing streak and won for the first time in 16 games when trailing after seven innings.

Down a run in the seventh, the Cardinals evened the score on Rafael Furcal’s RBI single and moved ahead when Matt Carpenter’s groundout scored Jaime Garcia.

Cashner (2-3) took the loss in relief of Clayton Richard, who allowed two runs on seven hits over 7 1/3 innings.

Garcia gave up seven hits with one walk and seven strikeouts over seven innings for the Cardinals.
