Mariners 12, Angels 0

Casper Wells homered and had five RBIs and Jesus Montero drove in three runs as host Seattle routed Los Angeles.

Blake Beavan (11-11) pitched eight shutout innings, allowing seven hits and one walk, as the Mariners beat the Angels for the second straight day following Los Angeles’ elimination from the American League wild-card race.

Jered Weaver (20-5) only pitched the first inning before leaving due to fatigue after 25 pitches. Weaver gave up two runs to lose his third game against the Mariners this season, with the runs crossing on Kyle Seager’s double and Montero’s bases-loaded fielder’s choice.

The Mariners boosted their lead to 4-0 on Montero’s two-run double in the third. Wells delivered a two-run, two-out single in the sixth and smashed a three-run homer off Barry Enright during Seattle’s six-run seventh inning.

Angels rookie Mike Trout went 2-for-3 to finish the year with a .326 average, second-best in the AL behind Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera. Trout was thrown out stealing in the first inning by Montero to fall one theft short of joining Eric Davis (1987) and Barry Bonds (1990) in the 30-homer, 50-steal club.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Wells threw out Trout at home in the sixth inning, marking the second time he threw Trout out on the bases in the series. … Wells, Montero, Seager and Trayvon Robinson all had two hits for Seattle. … Angels OF Torii Hunter was held out for the second straight day after experiencing dehydration issues on Monday.
