Rangers 2, Mariners 1: Adrian Beltre belted his 33rd home run and Matt Harrison celebrated his 27th birthday with 8 2/3 strong innings as host Texas took the rubber match of the three-game series.
Beltre drilled an 0-1 pitch from Blake Beavan over the wall in left field with one out in the fourth inning for his eighth blast in 15 games and a 1-0 lead. Mitch Moreland added a much-needed insurance run a frame later with an RBI double.
Harrison (17-9) came within one out of his fourth complete game of the season as he limited the Mariners to one run and six hits with one walk and five strikeouts in improving to 10-1 lifetime against Seattle. Koji Uehara struck out Michael Saunders with runners on the corners to notch his first save since 2010 with Baltimore.
Beavan (9-10) suffered his fourth loss in six starts despite allowing only two runs and seven hits in seven solid innings.
Justin Smoak went 2-for-3 with a solo homer for the Mariners, who completed a 3-3 road trip.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The start of the game was delayed 2 hours, 12 minutes by rain. ... Harrison induced three double-play grounders, raising his season total to 23. He was second in the American League to teammate C.J. Wilson with 30 last year. Seattle 3B Kyle Seager grounded into two of the three double plays. ... Smoak has homered in consecutive games after going 21 contests without a blast.
