Giants 7, Rockies 0

Pablo Sandoval continued to swing the hot bat and Barry Zito pitched a complete game shutout as visiting San Francisco snapped a three-game losing skid with a win over Colorado.

After getting swept by Arizona in their opening series, the Giants avoided their first season-opening four-game skid since 1950.

Zito (1-0) recorded his 10th career shutout and improved to 6-2 in 16 career starts against Colorado. After a poor spring and early-season struggles from Giants starters, the veteran lefty gave up just four hits and struck out four.

Sandoval did his damage early, launching a two-run home run to the second deck in right at Coors Field in the top of the first. He finished 2-for-4 and is now 6-for-16 with two home runs on the season.

The Rockies fell to 1-3 and have just one win in their last nine meetings with the Giants. It was the first time Colorado has been shut out in a home opener.

Colorado starter Jhoulys Chacin (0-1) walked three straight batters to load the bases in the top of the third, then gave up a RBI single to Hector Sanchez and an RBI groundout to Angel Pagan to make the score 4-0.

Chacin was yanked after just four innings, throwing 90 pitches with only 47 of those for strikes. He was replaced by Matt Reynolds, who served up a three-run double down the left field line to Brandon Crawford in the top of the fifth.

Michael Cuddyer, who was 5-for-12 with two doubles and a home run in the first three games with the Rockies, went 0-for-3.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
The game was delayed in the top of the fifth after a fan was hit by a foul ball. … The Giants loaded the bases three times. … Giants C Buster Posey was given the day off.
