Rockies 8, Padres 6 (12)
Rockies 8, Padres 6 (12): Jordan Pacheco snapped a tie with a two-out RBI single in the 12th inning and Ramon Hernandez added insurance with a run-scoring base hit as visiting Colorado evened the three-game series.
With Michael Cuddyer on second base and two outs, Pacheco hit a grounder through the hole on the left side off Joe Thatcher (0-3) to drive in his career-high fourth run of the night. Hernandez followed with a soft liner that dropped in front of center fielder Cameron Maybin, plating Pacheco for a two-run advantage.
The contest featured a pair of great defensive plays as Colorado right fielder Tyler Colvin made a game-saving catch in the bottom of the ninth inning and doubled off a runner at second base. Counterpart Will Venable made a diving grab in the 11th to end the frame and prevent a run from scoring.
Cuddyer finished with four hits and scored three runs while Pacheco went 3-for-6 for the Rockies, who won for just the 12th time in 39 games.
Carlos Torres (1-0) tossed two scoreless innings for his second career win and first since 2009 with the Chicago White Sox. Rafael Betancourt worked a perfect 12th for his 16th save.
San Diego took an early 3-0 lead on a two-run single by Chase Headley in the first inning and a solo homer by Jesus Guzman in the second. Colorado scored the next six runs as Pacheco highlighted a four-run fourth with a two-run single and added an RBI double in the fifth.
Guzman led off the bottom of the frame with a triple and scored on a double by Everth Cabrera, who raced home on Chris Denorfia's single two batters later, getting the Padres within one. Yasmani Grandal knotted the contest in the eighth with an RBI single.
Cabrera collected three hits for the Padres, who had won six of eight.
