Orioles 2, Nationals 0

Freddy Garcia tossed eight shutout innings and Baltimore defeated visiting Washington for the third time in four games.

Nick Markakis and Manny Machado both stroked run-scoring doubles as the Orioles swept two games from the Nationals at Camden Yards after splitting two games at Washington. Jim Johnson worked a perfect ninth for his 17th save in 21 opportunities to complete Baltimore’s third shutout win of the campaign.

Garcia (2-2) struck out six and allowed three hits without walking a batter to win his second consecutive start. Washington starter Dan Haren (4-6) also didn’t walk anybody and gave up two runs and eight hits in 7 1/3 innings while losing his third straight decision.

Ryan Flaherty led off the Baltimore third with a single and Machado delivered a two-out single prior to Markakis lining a double to right to score Flaherty.

Nate McLouth and Machado hit back-to-back doubles in the eighth to end Haren’s night and give the Orioles an insurance run.
