Blue Jays 4, Orioles 3
Colby Rasmus went deep for the second time in as many days by belting a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning as host Toronto snapped a four-game losing skid.
Moises Sierra ripped a two-run double with two outs in the first inning and Anthony Gose collected two hits for the Blue Jays, who sent Baltimore to its fourth loss in five contests. The Orioles reside 3 1/2 games behind Tampa Bay in the race for the second wild card in the American League.
Chris Davis became the third player in major league history to hit 50 homers and 40 doubles in a season with an RBI two-base hit in the first inning. Manny Machado belted a solo homer and Matt Wieters added an RBI single for the Orioles.
With Baltimore nursing a 3-2 lead, Rasmus jumped on a first-pitch changeup from Chris Tillman (16-6) and deposited it into the second deck in right field for his 20th homer.
The blast made a winner out of Jeremy Jeffress (1-0), who tossed one scoreless inning in relief of starter Esmil Rogers. Two hurlers bridged the gap to Casey Janssen, who worked around a two-out single to secure his 30th save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Tillman was foiled in his bid to become Baltimore's first 17-game winner in 14 years (Mike Mussina) after permitting four runs on six hits in eight innings. Mussina finished with 18 wins in 1999. ... Davis joined Babe Ruth and Albert Belle by reaching the 50-homer, 40-double plateau in a season. ... Baltimore DH Danny Valencia, who went 0-for-3, is still 22-for-45 since being recalled from Triple-A.
