Orioles 9, Blue Jays 5

Ryan Flaherty homered twice to key a balanced attack as host Baltimore cruised past Toronto.

Flaherty hit two-run shots in the third and eighth innings to pace the Orioles, who were eliminated from playoff contention Tuesday. T.J. McFarland (3-1) earned the victory with an inning of relief while Jason Hammel recorded the final eight outs to secure his fourth career save.

Toronto starter Esmil Rogers (5-9) was charged with six runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings to fall to 2-5 in 12 starts since the All-Star Break. Munenori Kawasaki and Josh Thole each had a career-high four hits in defeat.

The Blue Jays opened the scoring in the second inning on Jose Reyes' RBI single and extended the lead in the third as Anthony Gose tripled to the gap in right-center field to score Brett Lawrie. Thole followed with a run-scoring single to left, capping his first multi-hit game since Aug. 7.

Baltimore tied it on Flaherty's two-run shot and Steve Pearce's solo blast, then pulled ahead for good in the fifth. Nick Markakis broke the tie with an RBI single to right, Chris Davis padded the lead with a ground-rule double that cleared the center-field wall and Jason Pridie capped the uprising with a run-scoring groundout.
