Wilmer Flores drove in three runs with a pair of two-out singles and Zack Wheeler tossed 6 1/3 solid innings to remain undefeated on the road as New York evened its series with Arizona at one game apiece.
Juan Lagares homered to lead off the fourth inning and Ike Davis had a pair of hits to raise his average to a season-high .203 for the Mets.
Aaron Hill trimmed the Diamondbacks' deficit to one with a leadoff blast in the seventh inning. Arizona failed to push another run across despite loading the bases in both the seventh and eighth innings to fall 6 1/2 games behind the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. The Diamondbacks remained 4 1/2 in back of Cincinnati for the second wild-card berth.
Lagares opened the scoring by belting a 2-1 cutter from Brandon McCarthy (2-6) over the wall in right-center field for his third homer. Flores doubled the advantage by slapping a single to right later in the inning before giving New York a 4-1 lead in the eighth by plating Eric Young Jr. and Lagares with a base hit.
Wheeler (5-2) improved to 4-0 on the road by allowing one run on six hits and striking out four. Scott Rice and Pedro Feliciano worked out of bases-loaded jams before LaTroy Hawkins retired the side in the ninth for his third save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Flores, who finished 2-for-4, has eight RBIs in his first five major-league games. ...
