Willie Bloomquist singled in the winning run in the 10th inning as Arizona came from behind and avoided a three-game sweep against visiting Toronto.
Eric Chavez, who had a sacrifice fly in the seventh to tie the game, reached with a one-out single off Luis Perez (0-1) in the 10th before exiting for a pinch runner. A.J. Pollack’s single moved Adam Eaton to third before Bloomquist sent a single to the right side to push in the winning run.
Will Harris (3-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief while Matt Davidson and Miguel Montero added RBI doubles for the Diamondbacks, who pulled to within seven games of the Cincinnati Reds for the second wild-card spot in the National League.
Jose Reyes led off the game with a single for the Blue Jays and scored on Edwin Encarnacion’s double. Rajai Davis came up with two outs and sent a 1-0 fastball from Randall Delgado into the stands in left for his fourth homer of the season and second in as many days.
Arizona got two runs back on back-to-back RBI doubles off Mark Buehrle in the second but could not get on the board again until the seventh, when Davidson worked a leadoff walk. Gerardo Parra delivered a one-out single and Sergio Santos came on to surrender Chavez’s tying sacrifice fly.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Delgado was charged with three runs on four hits in seven innings while striking out six. The right-hander is winless in six straight outings despite four quality starts in that span. Buehrle was charged with three runs (two earned) on five hits in 6 1/3 frames. … Toronto has won three straight series against playoff contenders New York, Kansas City and Arizona. The Blue Jays get Thursday off before continuing their road trip at Minnesota. … Toronto RF Jose Bautista (bruised femur) was ruled out for the remainder of the season. He has been on the disabled list since Aug. 21.
