Red Sox 4, Dodgers 2

Jon Lester dominated through 7 1/3 innings and Jonny Gomes hit a three-run homer as visiting Boston evened the series with Los Angeles.

Mike Napoli added an RBI single and Stephen Drew doubled for the Red Sox, who remained tied with the Tampa Bay Rays atop the American League East.

Lester (12-7) struck out six and scattered one run and three hits in his second consecutive win. The left-hander got all the support he would need in the first inning when Napoli pushed a run across with a single and Gomes drove the next pitch out to left-center.

Hyun-Jin Ryu (12-5) settled down after the first and was charged with four runs on five hits while striking out seven in five innings. The Dodgers, who had a four-game winning streak come to an end, sit 9 1/2 games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks atop the National League West.

Los Angeles finally chased Lester after a one-out walk in the eighth and Yasiel Puig singled before former Boston star Adrian Gonzalez delivered a two-run double off Craig Breslow. Koji Uehara came on for the final out of the eighth and worked a perfect ninth for his 13th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Gonzalez, who went 1-for-4, is 1-for-7 with a pair of strikeouts in his first two games against his former team.
