White Sox 10, Braves 6

Alex Rios hit a grand slam and drove in five runs while Alejandro De Aza added four hits as host Chicago evened the three-game series.

Rios finished 3-for-5 and his grand slam off Atlanta starter Paul Maholm (9-9) capped a five-run third inning which helped the White Sox rally from a 4-0 deficit. Josh Phegley added three hits for Chicago, which took control with a four-run fourth.

Jake Peavy (7-4), making his first start for Chicago since June 4 because of a fractured rib, allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits in six innings.

The White Sox snatched the lead on Alexei Ramirez’s RBI single and Rios’ first-pitch grand slam deep into the left-field seats with none out. Brent Morel and Rios singled home runs in the fourth, and Jeff Keppinger added a two-run single to make it 9-4.

Freddie Freeman hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs while Dan Uggla added a two-run homer for the Braves. Maholm pitched to two hitters in the fourth inning before exiting with a sprained left wrist, allowing seven runs on as many hits.
