Braves 11, Rockies 3

Brian McCann's three-run homer capped a six-run fourth inning - all with two outs - as host Atlanta increased its lead in the National League East to 10 games over Washington.

Freddie Freeman drove in four runs with a pair of homers and Jason Heyward had three hits and scored as many runs for the Braves, who improved to 26-7 at home against the Rockies. Rookie Alex Wood (1-2) earned his first major-league victory after yielding three runs and striking out seven in as many innings.

Rookie Nolan Arenado homered for the second consecutive game, a two-run shot to give Colorado a 3-1 lead in the second inning. Juan Nicasio (6-5) allowed a career-high eight runs and 10 hits in four innings after permitting eight hits in his previous three starts as the Rockies fell to 0-2 in the four-game series.

Freeman crushed Nicasio's offering deep into the right-field seats in the first inning to tie the game 1-1. Justin Upton's RBI double in the third cut the deficit in half while Heyward's RBI single and rookie Evan Gattis' two-run hit preceded McCann's blast in the fourth.

Atlanta's Todd Cunningham, the 2012 organizational minor league player of the year, singled in his first major-league at-bat while pinch hitting with one out in the seventh inning. Three batters later, Freeman belted Edgmer Escalona's 0-2 pitch over the wall in right for a three-run shot.
