Braves 3, Indians 1
Brian McCann hit a three-run homer and Kris Medlen fired seven scoreless innings as host Atlanta capped a three-game interleague sweep.
McCann launched his 19th homer of the season with two outs in the bottom of the third off Cleveland starter Ubaldo Jimenez. Medlen (11-12) allowed six hits with six strikeouts and Craig Kimbrel recorded his major league-leading 43rd save for the first-place Braves, who maintained their 13-game lead over Washington in the National League East.
Jimenez (9-9) struck out 10 while allowing three runs on seven hits in seven innings. Pinch hitter Lonnie Chisenhall hit a solo homer in the eighth for the Indians, who dropped 6 1/2 games behind first-place Detroit in the American League Central but remained four in back of Oakland for the second wild-card spot.
McCann blasted a 1-1 pitch deep into the right-field seats, plating Medlen and Justin Upton to provide all the scoring for Atlanta. Upton went 2-for-2 before leaving the game with a bruised left hand after being hit with a pitch from Jimenez in the fifth, while McCann and Andrelton Simmons also recorded two hits apiece.
Cleveland threatened in the seventh on singles by Carlos Santana and Asdrubal Cabrera, but Medlen got Mike Aviles to line out to right to end the frame. Chisenhall sent a pitch from David Carpenter over the wall in right seats for the Indians' lone run.
