White Sox 5, Rangers 2

Conor Gillaspie hit a tiebreaking homer to lead off the seventh and Alejandro De Aza belted a two-run shot later in the inning as Chicago downed host Texas.

Chris Sale (3-2) allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings as the White Sox snapped a three-game losing streak. Sale struck out seven and walked two and Addison Reed struck out Elvis Andrus with two on in the ninth for his ninth save in as many opportunities.

Gillaspie drove a pitch from Nick Tepesch (2-2) over the right-center field fence to give Chicago the lead. Tyler Flowers had a one-out single and De Aza drove a full-count, two-out pitch over the wall down the right-field line to give the White Sox a three-run advantage and chase Tepesch.

Chicago took a 1-0 lead on a first-inning single by Alex Rios and pushed another run across in the second when Flowers grounded into a double play with the bases loaded. Texas struck twice in the second on Jeff Baker’s homer and Ian Kinsler’s run-scoring single.

Tepesch allowed five runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings.
