Twins 7, White Sox 5: Ryan Doumit capped a two-out rally in the eighth inning with a two-run double as host Minnesota claimed the opener of the three-game series.
Joe Mauer belted a two-run homer and Pedro Florimon recorded two hits and an RBI for the Twins, who improved to 4-3 on their nine-game homestand.
After Chicago chipped away with single runs in the seventh and eighth to forge a 5-5 tie, Clete Thomas drew a two-out walk from Ramon Troncoso (0-2). Mauer singled to keep the inning alive and Doumit ripped a double deep into the gap in left-center, plating both runners.
Doumit's clutch hit made a winner of Jared Burton (1-4), who yielded the tying run in one inning of relief. Glen Perkins struck out two in a perfect ninth for his 17th save in 19 opportunities.
Paul Konerko went 4-for-4 with an RBI and Conor Gillaspie hit a two-run homer for the White Sox, who have lost 13 of 15 on the road.
