Phillies 4, White Sox 3 (10)

Phillies 4, White Sox 3 (10): John Mayberry Jr. delivered a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning as Philadelphia took two of three at home from Chicago.

Jonathan Papelbon was unable to hold a one-run lead in the ninth, but his offense let him off the hook in the 10th as Chase Utley led off with a double to deep left and Jimmy Rollins followed with a walk against David Purcey (0-1). Domonic Brown advanced the runners with a groundout before Darin Ruf was walked intentionally to load the bases.

Ramon Troncoso came on to strike out Delmon Young, but Mayberry’s grounder up the middle plated Utley with the winning run and gave the Phillies their second walk-off win in as many games. Antonio Bastardo (3-2) needed only seven pitches to pitch a flawless 10th and notch the victory.

Philadelphia wasted another solid start from Cole Hamels as Papelbon blew his fifth save opportunity of the season by allowing Josh Phegley's game-tying RBI single in the ninth. Hamels recorded two hits and drove in a run, Brown collected two RBIs and Utley scored twice.

The Phillies jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first as Utley drew a one-out walk and Rollins followed with a single before Brown drove an 0-1 fastball over the head of Alejandro De Aza in center. Hamels added an RBI single in the fourth to increase the lead to three.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Philadelphia (48-48) improved to 4-10 in games in which it has a chance to reach .500, reaching that mark for the first time since it was 31-31 on June 7. … The White Sox have dropped 16 of their last 23 road games. … Hamels allowed two runs on eight hits and struck out seven over eight innings.
