Royals 1, White Sox 0

Royals 1, White Sox 0: Wade Davis outdueled All-Star Chris Sale and Lorenzo Cain drove in the lone run as visiting Kansas City extended its winning streak to five games.

Eric Hosmer and Billy Butler recorded two hits apiece for the Royals, who improved to 8-2 since the All-Star break.

Davis (5-9) scattered four singles and walked three over 7 1/3 strong innings, striking out four in halting a four-start losing streak. Louis Coleman recorded the final two outs of the eighth and Greg Holland escaped a jam in the ninth to complete the five-hit shutout and notch his 26th save.

Hosmer began the game-winning rally in the sixth with a leadoff single and advanced to third on Butler's base hit and a flyout by Salvador Perez. Cain, who left the game in the middle of the eighth with tightness in his left groin, followed with a double to left field that plated Hosmer for a 1-0 lead.

Sale (6-10) suffered his eighth loss in nine decisions despite yielding just one run and seven hits en route to his third complete game of the season. Alejandro De Aza and Alex Rios each notched a pair of hits for the White Sox, who have lost five of their last six contests.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Rios made a baserunning blunder in the bottom of the ninth, failing to tag up at third base on a liner off the bat of 3B Jeff Keppinger with one out. Kansas City RF David Lough made a diving catch and Rios was forced to retreat to third, preventing Chicago from tying the game. ... The Royals climbed within one game of the .500 mark at 50-51. The club has not finished with a winning record since going 83-79 in 2003. ... Sale has allowed two earned runs or fewer in five of his last eight losses. He did, however, grab a share of the American League lead in complete games.
