Paul Konerko drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning and Chris Sale outdueled Hiroki Kuroda as host Chicago clinched a series for the first time in five tries.

Alejandro De Aza recorded two hits and an RBI while Conor Gillaspie also plated a run for the White Sox, who had lost four straight sets since winning two of three games against the Atlanta Braves from July 19-21.

Alex Rodriguez went 1-for-2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch in his second game of the year as New York fell to 2-5 on its eight-game road trip and six games behind Texas for the American League's second wild-card spot. The troubled superstar served as the designated hitter after starting at third base in his season debut Monday.

The Yankees took an early lead when Alfonso Soriano scored from second on a wild pitch by Sale in the first inning as Chicago catcher Josh Phegley was unable to locate the ball. Gillaspie hit a two-out RBI single off Kuroda (10-7) in the fourth to forge a tie and Alexei Ramirez scored on a fielder's choice by Konerko two frames later to put the White Sox ahead. De Aza capped the scoring in the seventh with an RBI double.

Sale (7-11) allowed one run and five hits over 7 1/3 innings en route to just his second win in 11 decisions. Addison Reed yielded a run in the ninth before notching his 27th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kuroda surrendered three runs and nine hits over seven innings. The 38-year-old has suffered five of his seven losses on the road. ... The Yankees lost for the seventh time in 10 contests, while Chicago posted its second straight win following a 10-game slide. ... Chicago Bulls center Nazr Mohammed threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
