Rangers 4, Cubs 2

Rangers 4, Cubs 2: Derek Holland tossed seven scoreless frames in his Wrigley Field debut and Adrian Beltre blasted a two-run homer as Texas claimed the opener of the three-game interleague series.

Holland (1-1) struck out six and limited the Cubs to two hits before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the eighth. The Cubs put together a two-out rally in the ninth and got on the board on Nate Schierholtz's two-run double, but Joe Nathan notched his fifth save by retiring Darwin Barney on Craig Gentry's diving catch in center.

Most of Texas' damage was done against reliever Shawn Camp, who recorded one out, allowed an inherited runner to score on an errant pick-off throw and surrendered Beltre's two-run blast to left-center in the eighth.

Alfonso Soriano's infield single in the ninth snapped an 0-for-24 skid with runners in scoring position for the Cubs. Schierholtz followed with a looping double to left and Welington Castillo was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Barney, who had a hit taken away by Gentry's diving grab to end the game.

The Cubs' inability to produce any offense before the ninth spoiled a strong outing from left-hander Travis Wood (1-1), who allowed two runs on five hits in 7 1/3 innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cubs SS Starlin Castro singled in the ninth to extend his hitting streak to nine games. … Former Cubs utility man Jeff Baker played left field for Texas and went 2-for-4 with an RBI. … The Cubs played "Sweet Caroline" in the middle of the eighth inning in tribute to those affected by the bombings at the Boston Marathon on Monday.
