Rockies 4, Cubs 3

Rockies 4, Cubs 3: Tyler Chatwood pitched six strong innings and Carlos Gonzalez had two hits and an RBI and scored twice as host Colorado claimed the rubber match of a three-game series.

Chatwood (6-3) held the Cubs scoreless until the sixth, when he allowed Anthony Rizzo's opposite-field home run and his own throwing error allowed an unearned run to come home on Darwin Barney's sacrifice fly, tying it at 2. The 23-year-old was charged with two runs - one earned - on seven hits.

Starlin Castro went 4-for-5 for his first four-hit game of the season for Chicago, which has not won a series at Colorado since 2004. Castro led off the ninth with a double and scored on Alfonso Soriano's groundout, but Rex Brothers struck out Junior Lake to earn his fifth save.

Chicago starter Edwin Jackson (6-11) had his three-start winning streak snapped, allowing four runs - three earned - on five hits over seven innings. After allowing a pair of runs in the first, Jackson settled in and kept the Cubs in it.

Gonzalez opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first and scored on Michael Cuddyer's double. The Rockies snapped a 2-2 tie in the sixth, when Nolan Arenado lined an RBI single up the middle to score Gonzalez and Cuddyer came home when Lake's throw to the plate from center field sailed high and caromed into the Rockies' dugout.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gonzalez stole two bases, giving him 18 for the season and 100 in five seasons with Colorado. He also stole four bases as a rookie with Oakland in 2008. … Rizzo's home run was the Cubs' 20th of July, the most in the National League. Chicago has at least one homer in six straight games and 14 of 16 this month. … The Rockies host Miami for a four-game series starting Monday, while the Cubs continue their 10-game road trip with a four-game set at Arizona.
