Brewers 3, Cubs 1

Yovani Gallardo pitched seven strong innings and knocked in a run as visiting Milwaukee rallied to edge Chicago and take two of three in the series.

Jeff Bianchi recorded a two-run, pinch-hit single as Milwaukee scored three times in the seventh to erase a 1-0 deficit. Gallardo (11-9) allowed one run and three hits while striking out six for the victory and Jim Henderson pitched a perfect ninth for his 24th save.

Rookie Junior Lake homered among his two hits for the Cubs, who have lost 10 of 15 to Milwaukee this season. Chicago starter Scott Baker, making his first appearance since Tommy John surgery in April 2012, pitched five scoreless innings while yielding only two hits.

Baker did not surrender a hit until Jean Segura’s infield single led off the fourth and he was promptly thrown out trying to steal by catcher Welington Castillo. Lake broke the scoreless tie in the fifth, hitting his sixth homer of the season on a 2-1 pitch from Gallardo.

Aramis Ramirez hit the first of his two doubles to set the table in the seventh for the Brewers off Justin Grimm (7-8) and moved to third on a Carlos Gomez single. Bianchi followed with his single to plate both runners off James Russell and Gallardo capped the rally with his run-scoring single to left.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gomez had two hits for the Brewers after going 1-for-13 with four strikeouts over his previous four contests. … Baker is the 55th player to make an appearance in a game for the Cubs this season, the most in club history.
