Royals 6, Indians 5

Eric Hosmer hit a tiebreaking homer in the seventh inning and host Kansas City overcame a pair of delays to snap Cleveland's five-game winning streak.

Salvador Perez and Miguel Tejada each had two hits and an RBI and Billy Butler and Lorenzo Cain added run-scoring singles as the Royals evened the series at one game apiece. The start of the game was delayed 2 hours, 37 minutes by rain before a computer malfunction caused the stadium lights to go out at midnight local time.

Jason Kipnis extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an inside-the-park, three-run homer - a play on which Royals left fielder Alex Gordon suffered a possible concussion and bruised hip when he fell and slammed his head into the wall. Kipnis also stretched his streak of reaching base to 34 straight games.

After Kipnis' homer in the sixth put the Indians on top 3-1, Kansas City answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning on RBI singles by Perez, Lorenzo Cain and Tejada before an errant pickoff throw plated the fourth run for a 5-3 edge.

Cleveland tied it in the seventh on Michael Bourn's RBI single and Asdrubal Cabrera's sacrifice fly, but Hosmer hammered a long homer to dead center off Cody Allen (3-1). Will Smith (1-1) pitched 1 2/3 innings for the win before Greg Holland notched his 18th save in 20 chances.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie gave up five runs in 6 1/3 innings while Indians left-hander Scott Kazmir allowed three runs in five-plus innings. ... Kipnis, who was named the AL Player of the Month after batting .419 with four homers and 25 RBIs in June, became the first Cleveland player with an inside-the-park homer since Jhonny Peralta on July 18, 2010. ... Gordon, who had two hits before he was hurt, will be re-evaluated for a concussion on Thursday.
