Michael Bourn ripped the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning as host Cleveland overcame a five-run deficit to snap a six-game losing skid.
Nick Swisher and Mike Aviles belted two-run homers with two outs in the sixth inning before Carlos Santana forged a 5-5 tie with a solo shot to lead off the seventh. Bourn had two hits for the Indians, who salvaged the finale of the three-game series but stayed four games behind Oakland in the race for the second American League wild card.
Mike Trout slapped a two-run single while registering his majors-leading 46th multi-hit game. Rookie Grant Green had two hits and scored twice and Josh Hamilton and Kole Calhoun added RBI singles for the Angels, who bolted out to a 5-0 lead.
J.C. Gutierrez (0-3) entered the game in the seventh and promptly served up Santana's 13th homer. Lonnie Chisenhall walked and advanced to second on Drew Stubbs' single before Gutierrez was replaced by Nick Maronde. Bourn slapped the first-pitch fastball from Maronde into left field to plate Chisenhall and give Cleveland a 6-5 lead.
Matt Albers (3-1) retired all five batters he faced to pick up the win. Joe Smith struck out two to bridge the gap to Chris Perez, who retired the side in the ninth for his 18th save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The late uprising prevented Angels RHP Jerome Williams from posting his first victory since June 12. The 31-year-old allowed four runs on as many hits and struck out a season-high seven batters. Indians RHP Justin Masterson was let off the hook after permitting five runs (four earned) on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. ... Cleveland SS Asdrubal Cabrera was ejected by home plate umpire Vic Carapazza in the second inning for arguing balls and strikes. ... Los Angeles continues its seven-game road trip on Monday by opening a four-game series versus the New York Yankees. Cleveland begins a nine-game road trip on Monday with a three-game set against Minnesota.
