Nationals 1, Reds 0

Jordan Zimmerman threw a one-hitter for his first career shutout as host Washington got its second straight dominant pitching performance against Cincinnati.

One night after Gio Gonzalez let up one hit - a home run - in eight innings of an 8-1 Washington victory, Zimmerman (4-1) allowed a third-inning single to Xavier Paul and retired 14 of the last 15 men he faced. Zimmerman struck out four and threw 91 pitches in improving to 3-0 with a 1.36 ERA against the Reds.

Homer Bailey (1-2) was the tough-luck loser, giving up the lone run and five hits in seven innings. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.

Bryce Harper tripled off Bailey with one out in the fourth and Jayson Werth followed with a base hit to right. The Nationals ran into two outs on the bases in the sixth and hit into a double play in the seventh.

The Reds have produced only two runs on a pair of solo homers over their last three games.
