Reds 5, Dodgers 2: Xavier Paul and Jay Bruce each homered while Mat Latos tossed 7 2/3 solid innings as visiting Cincinnati ended Los Angeles’ six-game winning streak.
Latos (10-3) allowed two runs – one earned – and scattered eight hits as he won for the first time in six career starts at Dodger Stadium. Cesar Izturis and Shin-Soo Choo added RBI singles for the Reds, who improved to 6-2 since the All-Star break and 4-1 during their 11-game road trip.
Zack Greinke (8-3) suffered his first loss in seven all-time outings against Cincinnati as he yielded four runs and six hits over seven frames. Adrian Gonzalez accounted for Los Angeles' only offense with RBI groundouts in the fourth and eighth innings.
Paul backed Latos in the first by driving a fastball from Greinke over the fence in right-center, while Izturis followed Todd Frazier’s double in the second with a bloop single that gave the Reds a 2-0 lead. Yasiel Puig singled in the fourth and moved to third on a throwing error by center fielder Choo to set the stage for Gonzalez, who pushed across the Dodgers' first run three pitches later.
After Brandon Phillips was hit by a pitch with two outs in the sixth, Bruce gave the Reds a 4-1 advantage when he lifted a hanging curveball from Greinke into the seats in left-center. Manny Parra retired Andre Ethier to end the eighth and Aroldis Chapman stranded a pair of runners in scoring position during a 26-pitch ninth for his 24th save.
