Clayton Kershaw struck out 11 in 8 2/3 innings while Andre Ethier drove in both runs for host Los Angeles.

Kershaw (4-2) scattered five hits and improved to 4-1 with a 0.80 ERA at Dodger Stadium this season, and Los Angeles won for the third time in its last 12 games. Kershaw also scored on Ethier's two-out two-run single to center in the third after he was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.

The Nationals went down swinging in the ninth inning as Ryan Zimmerman hit a fly ball to the warning track in right for the first out and Ian Desmond did the same to left for the second. After Adam LaRoche singled to chase Kershaw, Kenley Jansen struck out Tyler Moore for his second save.

Zimmerman had three hits for the Nationals, who were without Bryce Harper after he was injured while crashing into the right-field wall during Monday's 6-2 victory. Dan Haren (4-4) allowed two runs and four hits in seven innings and had his three-start winning streak snapped.

Kershaw had 10 strikeouts in the first five innings and struck out the side in the third. He retired 24 of the last 27 batters he faced and threw a career-high 132 pitches.
