Dodgers 3, Giants 1

Yasiel Puig went 3-for-4 with a homer and a tiebreaking RBI single in the eighth inning as host Los Angeles won the opener of the three-game series.

Puig lifted his batting average to .442 with his 12th multi-hit performance for the Dodgers, who snapped a five-game losing streak against the Giants. Paco Rodriguez (2-2) recorded the final two outs in the eighth for the win and Kenley Jansen struck out the side in the ninth for his fifth save.

Madison Bumgarner (7-5) settled in after allowing Puig’s first-inning homer before Nick Punto sparked the Dodgers’ rally in the eighth with a leadoff double. After Mark Ellis reached on an error, George Kontos replaced Bumgarner and surrendered Puig’s RBI single to left field.

Ellis later scored from third on Hanley Ramirez’s groundout, and the Dodgers held on for their third straight win. The Giants have lost seven of their last 10 and fallen to .500 for the first time since they were 3-3 on April 7.

The Giants plated their lone run in the second inning, when Joaquin Arias scored from second on Andres Torres’ double off Hyun-Jin Ryu, who yielded eight hits and four walks in 6 2/3 innings. Arias was forced to leave the game with a left hamstring strain after sliding into home.
