Marlins 1, Royals 0 (10)

Christian Yelich had three hits, including a go-ahead RBI single in the 10th inning, and visiting Miami snapped its two-game skid.

Jake Marisnick was hit by a pitch from Kelvin Herrera (4-6) to lead off the 10th before stealing second base and scoring on Yelich’s one-out single to right field. Chad Qualls (3-1) earned the win and Steve Cishek worked around a one-out single in the 10th for his 25th save.

Yelich’s game-winner overshadowed a superb pitchers’ duel between Marlins rookie Jose Fernandez and Royals lefty Bruce Chen, who each tossed seven scoreless innings. Kansas City fell to 19-6 since the All-Star break and remained four games back of Tampa Bay for the second wild-card spot in the American League.

Fernandez yielded three hits while striking out six and issuing one walk for the Marlins, who won for the fifth time in 16 interleague games. Chen, who matched Fernandez’s effort while allowing three hits with six strikeouts, lowered his ERA to 0.93 in six starts since joining the starting rotation.

The Royals’ bullpen had allowed one run in 25 innings before Yelich’s run-scoring single off Herrera.
