Jonathan Lucroy went 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs while Yovani Gallardo pitched 6 1/3 strong innings as host Milwaukee blanked Miami for the second straight night.
Gallardo (8-8) allowed five hits and two walks while striking out five to improve to 5-0 lifetime against the Marlins with a 1.12 ERA. Rickie Weeks also homered and Ryan Braun knocked in two runs for Milwaukee, which has beaten Miami four times in five meetings this season.
Derek Dietrich recorded a pair of hits for the Marlins, who have gone 24 innings without a run. Miami starter Nathan Eovaldi (2-1) yielded six runs and 10 hits over four innings, his shortest of six outings this year.
Braun drilled a two-run double to the center-field wall in the first inning as the Brewers took a 2-0 lead. Milwaukee extended its advantage in the third on Lucroy’s solo blast, which hit the glove of the leaping Giancarlo Stanton and bounded over the right-field wall.
Weeks homered to deep center to lead off the fourth before Norichika Aoki hit an RBI single and scored on Lucroy’s double later in the inning. The Marlins loaded the bases with one out in the sixth before Logan Morrison grounded into a double play.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Brewers improved to 13-3 against the Marlins at home since 2009, their best winning percentage against any National League team in that span. … Miami SS Adeiny Hechavarria, who went 1-for-4, has hit safely in 14 of his 15 games in July. … The contest marked the eighth annual Negro Leagues tribute game in Milwaukee. The Brewers wore replicated uniforms of the Milwaukee Bears from 1923. Their opponents wore uniforms of the 1956-60 Triple-A Miami Marlins with a patch on a sleeve to honor Hall-of-Famer Satchel Paige, who pitched for the Marlins from 1956-58.
