Brewers 1, Marlins 0 (13)
Caleb Gindl led off the 13th inning with his first career home run as Milwaukee finished off a three-game sweep of visiting Miami.
Gindl, who also had a double while playing his 13th career game, hit Ryan Webb’s pitch just inside the left-field foul pole as the Brewers finished off their third straight shutout. John Axford (4-3) pitched two scoreless innings to earn the victory for the Brewers.
Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits for the Marlins, who have set a franchise record with 37 consecutive scoreless innings. Webb (1-4) allowed a runner to second with none out in the 12th before getting out of the jam, but suffered the loss the following inning.
Milwaukee starter Wily Peralta blanked the Marlins through eight innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out seven. Miami starter Henderson Alvarez tossed seven scoreless frames, yielding five hits and one walk before being lifted for a pinch hitter.
The previous record drought for the Marlins was 30 innings last August. The Brewers were the last team in the majors to register a shutout on June 15 and they have eight since.
