Angels 5, Cardinals 1

Jered Weaver pitched seven strong innings and Howie Kendrick had three hits as host Los Angeles posted its seventh consecutive victory.

Albert Pujols went 0-for-3 with a walk in his first game against the Cardinals, the franchise with which he played 11 seasons before the leaving for the Angels after the 2011 season. The loss was the seventh in nine games for St. Louis.

Weaver (2-4) struck out five without issuing a walk as he snapped a five-start winless streak. He allowed six hits and a fourth-inning run on David Freese’s groundout.

Mark Trumbo, Alberto Callaspo, Erick Aybar and J.B. Shuck each delivered an RBI single during a five-run second inning against Lance Lynn (10-3). St. Louis loaded the bases in the eighth against Kevin Jepsen before Scott Downs entered and struck out Matt Adams and induced Freese to hit into a double play.

Lynn has lost back-to-back starts after winning 10 of his first 11 decisions. He gave up five runs and nine hits in six innings.
