Angels 8, Athletics 3
Albert Pujols collected three hits and drove in a pair of runs as Los Angeles awoke from its offensive slumber to spoil the opener of Oakland's 10-game homestand.
J.B. Shuck had two hits and scored three times while Mike Trout and Mark Trumbo drove in two runs apiece. Josh Hamilton had an RBI single in his return from a three-game absence due to inflammation in his right ankle for the Angels, who totaled seven runs in their previous four contests.
The offensive outburst was welcomed by C.J. Wilson (11-6), who defeated Oakland in his second straight start while winning for the seventh time in eight outings. After spinning a three-hit gem over 8 1/3 innings on Saturday, Wilson allowed three runs on five hits in seven frames to improve to 10-7 lifetime versus the Athletics.
After Derek Norris' RBI single gave Oakland a 2-1 advantage in the fourth, Los Angeles provided a swift response with a four-run fifth inning. Trout's sacrifice fly forged a tie before Hamilton ripped an 0-2 changeup from Dan Straily (6-4) to right field to plate Shuck. Trumbo delivered a two-run double to center to give the Angels a 5-2 lead.
Jesse Chavez provided little relief in the sixth, uncorking a wild pitch which enabled Hank Conger to score. Trout and Pujols added RBI singles to put the game out of reach.
