Mariners 2, Brewers 0
Felix Hernandez allowed four hits over eight standout innings as host Seattle silenced Milwaukee in the finale of a three-game series.
Justin Smoak homered and Dustin Ackley scored on a wild pitch as the Mariners bounced back from being outscored 20-5 in the first two contests of the series.
Hernandez (12-5) struck out nine and walked one while winning for the seventh time in eight decisions. He lowered his American League-leading ERA to 2.28 before giving way to Danny Farquhar, who allowed a two-out single in the ninth to Jonathan Lucroy before retiring Carlos Gomez on a grounder for his fourth save.
Brewers starter Wily Peralta (8-12) was a hard-luck loser, allowing two runs and four hits in a complete-game effort.
Ackley doubled to lead off the third inning, moved to third on an infield out and scored on Peralta’s wild pitch. Smoak provided an insurance run with a one-out blast to right in the fifth, his fourth homer in his last eight games.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Hernandez has pitched eight or more innings eight times in 25 starts this season, but doesn’t have a complete game. … Milwaukee plans to activate 3B Aramis Ramirez (knee) for Tuesday’s series opener against the Texas Rangers. … Seattle DH Kendrys Morales, who went 0-for-3, was hitless in 11 at-bats in the series following a torrid 20-for-38 stretch.
