Twins 4, Nationals 3 (11)

Ryan Doumit singled up the middle in the 11th inning to plate the go-ahead run as visiting Minnesota won the series opener against Washington.

Doumit lined a single to center off Craig Stammen (3-2) with two outs in the 11th, scoring Chris Herrmann, who drew a walk. Glen Perkins pitched a scoreless inning for his 13th save.

Josh Roenicke (2-1) pitched a scoreless 10th for the victory as the Twins won for the seventh time in 10 games. Washington, which had its past two games rained out, dropped to 1-5 in its past six contests.

Jayson Werth launched a two-run homer in the third to put the Nationals ahead 2-0, but the Twins battled back to tie the game one inning later on Justin Morneau’s ball that was booted by Adam LaRoche, and Brian Dozier’s run-scoring single to left.

Minnesota jumped ahead 3-2 on Joe Mauer’s sixth homer of the season, a solo shot to left-center in the fifth. Washington tied the game on Kurt Suzuki’s double in the seventh, scoring Anthony Rendon.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Friday’s rained out game will be made up as the nightcap of a Sunday day-night doubleheader. … Washington starter Gio Gonzalez struck out seven in six innings, allowing three runs (two earned). Minnesota starter Kevin Correia also struck out seven, giving up three runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. … Five Minnesota relievers allowed no runs on two hits in 4 2/3 innings.
