Nationals 3, Mets 2

Nationals 3, Mets 2
: Steve Lombardozzi lifted a sacrifice fly to score Adam LaRoche and cap a game-winning two-run rally as host Washington sent New York to its fourth straight loss in painful fashion.

The Mets took a 2-1 lead into the ninth following seven strong innings from starter Jeremy Hefner and a perfect eighth from Brandon Lyon, who yielded to Bobby Parnell (4-2). Ryan Zimmerman doubled to start the rally, moved to third on a Parnell wild pitch and scored the tying run on LaRoche's single to right.

Ian Desmond doubled to put runners on second and third and, after Roger Bernadina was intentionally walked to load the bases, Lombardozzi hit a fly to left field that was deep enough to end it. Tyler Clippard (4-1) worked a flawless ninth for the victory.

Hefner allowed one run on four hits, striking out seven and walking one. Washington starter Jordan Zimmermann was just as good, limiting New York to two unearned runs in eight frames and lowering his ERA to 2.16.

Desmond hit a solo homer off Hefner in the second to start the scoring. Omar Quintanilla ripped a two-run triple following a LaRoche error in the fifth to give the Mets the lead that Parnell could not hold.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Nationals made several roster moves Tuesday. Among them, OF Jayson Werth was activated from the disabled list and 2B Danny Espinosa was placed on the DL with a fractured wrist. ... Quintanilla also doubled in the eighth and is 9-for-17 in five games this season. ... New York's Nos. 2-6 hitters combined to hitless in 19 at-bats.
