Nationals 2, Mets 1 (Game 2)
Nationals 2, Mets 1: Ryan Zimmerman belted a walk-off homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as host Washington earned a split of a day-night doubleheader.
Zimmerman ripped a high fastball from reliever LaTroy Hawkins (3-2) into the seats in right-center field to give the Nationals only their second win in nine contests. The blast allowed them to move a half-game ahead of Philadephia and into second place in the National League East.
Closer Rafael Soriano (2-2) earned the win with a scoreless ninth after Tyler Clippard followed seven superb innings by Ross Ohlendorf with a scoreless eighth. Ohlendorf, making his second start of the year, struck out a season-high eight and allowed one run on six hits over seven innings.
The Mets wasted a stellar performance by ace Matt Harvey, who yielded only an unearned run and five hits while fanning seven in eight innings. Pitching on the one-year anniversary of his major-league debut, Harvey limited an opponent to one run or fewer for the 13th time in 21 starts.
The Mets went ahead in the fourth inning when Josh Satin doubled and scored on John Buck's double over the head of Steve Lombardozzi in left field. Washington tied it in the fifth when second baseman Daniel Murphy threw wildly on a double-play attempt after a spectacular stop and flip by shortstop Justin Turner, allowing Jayson Werth (three hits) to come home.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Murphy had two hits and was 6-for-9 with five RBIs in the doubleheader. ... Mets 2B Eric Young Jr. sat out both games with a right knee strain and SS Turner was replaced in the bottom of the seventh with a sore right shoulder as a result of a collision with LF Andrew Brown in the first inning.
