Wilson Ramos smacked a grand slam and matched a career high with five RBIs to help host Washington rout New York.
Denard Span went 4-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs and Ian Desmond also went 4-for-4 as the Nationals racked up 18 hits while beating the Mets for the third consecutive game. Desmond, Span and Jayson Werth each scored three runs.
Rookie Taylor Jordan (1-3) allowed one run and five hits in six innings for his first major-league victory. Jordan struck out seven and walked one.
The Nationals tallied three times in the second against Carlos Torres (1-2) as Ramos had an RBI single and Bryce Harper singled in two runs. Desmond had a run-scoring single in the third and Ramos drilled his first career grand slam two batters later to make it 8-0.
Marlon Byrd had a run-scoring single for the Mets in the top of the fourth before Werth and Span delivered RBI singles in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-1. Span hit a two-run blast in the sixth to give Washington a 12-run cushion.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Ramos also had five RBIs on July 4 against the Milwaukee Brewers. … Torres allowed eight runs and nine hits in three innings. … Nationals pitching coach Steve McCatty was taken to a local hospital with atrial fibrillation and high blood pressure. He is expected to remain hospitalized overnight.
