Nick Hundley hit a two-run homer and Will Venable had four hits as host San Diego snapped a three-game slide.
Jedd Gyorko added a three-run blast and Chris Denorfia and Alexi Amarista each singled in a run for the Padres, who won for the third time in the last 11 games. Edinson Volquez (9-10) allowed two runs on seven hits in five innings to improve to 1-5 in seven career starts against New York.
Jenrry Mejia had surrendered one run while striking out five in three innings before leaving two pitches into the fourth with elbow discomfort. Daniel Murphy and Ike Davis each delivered RBI singles for the Mets.
Mejia had retired five of six before handing it off to David Aardsma (2-2) with the game knotted at 1. Logan Forsythe immediately singled and came home on Hundley’s blast to left before Venable doubled and scored to cap the three-run outburst.
New York got a run back in the fifth but Jesus Guzman delivered a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the frame to push it to 5-2. Gyorko put it away with a three-run blast in the eighth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Venable has hit safely in a career-high 14 straight games. … Mets C Travis d’Arnaud made his major-league debut and went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks. The Padres went 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts against d’Arnaud. … New York 3B Wilmer Flores (ankle) returned to the starting lineup for the first time in five days and went 1-for-4.
