Phillies 2, Mets 1
Cliff Lee struck out seven in eight innings to lead visiting Philadelphia, hours after New York learned ace right-hander Matt Harvey suffered a potentially serious elbow injury.
Harvey, the starting pitcher for the National League in the All-Star Game, has a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow and could face Tommy John surgery. Rookie Zack Wheeler (6-3), whom the Mets envision becoming a mainstay in the rotation, allowed two runs while striking out seven in 6 2/3 innings.
Cody Asche had two hits, including his first career triple which drove in both runs, as the Phillies won for the seventh time in their last nine games. Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 22nd save - and second since July 11 - in 28 opportunities.
Lee (11-6), who allowed one run and five hits, retired 11 straight batters before Travis d'Arnaud's one-out single in the eighth inning. The left-hander faced the minimum from the third through seventh, allowing only Marlon Byrd's single with one out in the fourth.
The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Byrd led off with a double and Andrew Brown followed with a run-scoring single. The Phillies scored twice in the fourth when Michael Young singled with two outs, Darin Ruf walked and Asche delivered his three-base hit to right.
