Mets 11, Phillies 3
Carlos Torres worked into the seventh inning and Daniel Murphy went 4-for-5 with two RBIs as host New York earned a split of the four-game series.
Anthony Recker slugged a two-run homer, Andrew Brown added a solo shot and an RBI single while Eric Young Jr. recorded three hits, including a bases-clearing triple to cap a four-run seventh for the Mets, who matched their highest scoring output since before the All-Star break.
Starting for the first time in over a month in place of injured ace Matt Harvey, Torres (3-2) took a shutout into the seventh before settling for one run and four hits allowed in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out six and did not allow a walk in his 10th career start.
Rookie Ethan Martin (2-3) struck out a season-high nine batters in four frames but gave up three runs in the process. After fanning the side in the second, he allowed an RBI double to Murphy in the third and Recker's shot in the fourth to make it 3-0.
Murphy greeted Cesar Jimenez with another double to begin the fifth before scoring on Brown's base hit and added an RBI single in a two-run sixth that pushed the Mets’ lead to 6-0. Young's three-run triple made it 10-1 before pinch hitter Roger Bernadina clubbed a two-run shot in the eighth for the Phillies, who lost for just the fourth time in their last 13 games at Citi Field.
