Mariners 7, Athletics 5

Rookie Nick Franklin delivered a two-run single in the eighth inning after Raul Ibanez tied the contest with a three-run homer in the seventh as host Seattle snapped its three-game losing streak.

Franklin finished with three hits and three RBIs for Seattle, which trailed 5-2 in the seventh before Ibanez blasted his 15th homer off Jerry Blevins. The Mariners capped their comeback an inning later, when their first two batters reached base and scored on Franklin’s single to center off Ryan Cook (1-1).

Yoervis Medina (2-2) earned the win after working 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Jed Lowrie had three hits and drove in three runs for the Athletics, who have lost three of their last four to fall into a first-place tie with Texas in the American League West.

Franklin Gutierrez blasted a solo homer and Franklin hit a two-out RBI single to stake Seattle to a 2-0 lead in the second. But the Athletics chipped away against Aaron Harang, who allowed three runs over five innings.

Lowrie lifted a sacrifice fly in the third before giving Oakland a 3-2 lead with a two-run single in the fifth. The Athletics added to their advantage in the seventh on RBI singles by Josh Donaldson and Josh Reddick.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Mariners activated Gutierrez from the disabled list before the game and placed OF Michael Morse on the 15-day DL with a strained right quad muscle. Seattle also designated OF Eric Thames for assignment. … Oakland C Derek Norris snapped an 0-for-24 road slump with a third-inning single. … Athletics starter Dan Straily allowed two runs while throwing 78 pitches over 3 1/3 innings, the shortest start of his career.
