Tim Lincecum threw his first career no-hitter while Hunter Pence homered and drove in five runs as visiting San Francisco routed San Diego for the second straight game.
Lincecum (5-9) recorded 13 strikeouts with four walks while throwing a season-high 148 pitches en route to the 15th no-hitter in Giants history. The two-time Cy Young Award winner earned his first road victory since beating the Los Angeles Dodgers in his season debut on April 3 while throwing the first no-hitter in the history of Petco Park.
Brandon Belt homered and had three RBIs for the Giants, who have won three in a row following a four-game losing streak. Pence made a diving catch on Alexi Amarista’s liner with two outs in the eighth to keep the no-hitter intact, and Yonder Alonso flied out to left to end the game.
Pablo Sandoval had three hits and doubled in a run in the first against Edinson Volquez (6-8), who yielded eight runs on nine hits over five frames. Belt launched a two-run blast in the fourth to put San Francisco ahead 4-0, and Pence sparked a four-run rally in the fifth with a bases-loaded triple.
The Padres have lost 18 of their last 21 contests to fall a season-high 13 games under .500, and they’ve been outscored 19-1 in the last two meetings with the Giants.
