Brewers 6, Cubs 5 (1st)

Jean Segura homered for the first time in more than a month and delivered the tiebreaking RBI double in the seventh inning as visiting Milwaukee took the first game of a day-night doubleheader from Chicago.

Khris Davis belted a three-run homer while Yuniesky Betancourt recorded three hits – including a solo shot – and scored twice for the Brewers, who have won 10 of their last 13 road meetings against the Cubs following their 3-2 victory in the nightcap. Rob Wooten (1-0) struck out two during a perfect sixth inning for his first career major-league victory in the opener.

Welington Castillo had an RBI single and finished with three hits while Darwin Barney drove in a pair of runs for Chicago. James Russell (1-3) was charged with two runs on three hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning.

Segura’s first home run since June 21 put the Brewers on the board in the fourth inning and Betancourt followed with his second homer in three days in the fifth. Barney’s two-run single sparked a five-run rally in the bottom half, capped by consecutive run-scoring singles by Castillo, Carlos Villanueva and David DeJesus.

The Brewers countered with a four-run surge in the seventh when Jeff Bianchi walked and Betancourt singled to close the book on Villanueva. Davis homered on the first pitch he saw from Russell to tie the game at 5 and Segura brought home the go-ahead run after Norichika Aoki singled and stole a pair of bases.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Milwaukee starter Yovani Gallardo appeared to tweak his left hamstring during a diving catch on a sacrifice bunt attempt from Villanueva in the fourth. Gallardo finished the frame, but was pulled after loading the bases in the fifth due to tightness in the hamstring. … RHP Jim Henderson worked around two walks in the ninth for his 13th save as the Brewers improved to 38-0 - the only team in the majors without a loss - when leading after eight innings. … Segura was caught stealing following his seventh-inning double, snapping a string of 13 straight successful stolen base attempts by Milwaukee.
