Orioles 7, Dodgers 5 (1st)

Nolan Reimold belted a solo home run and delivered the go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning as host Baltimore took the first game of a day-night doubleheader.

J.J. Hardy added a two-run homer and a sacrifice fly while Chris Davis had three hits, including a double that ignited the winning rally. Darren O’Day (2-0) got two outs in the eighth for the win and Jim Johnson pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his seventh save.

Andre Ethier belted a three-run homer, Matt Kemp collected three hits and Mark Ellis added two hits and an RBI for the Dodgers, who have lost five straight. Los Angeles starter Hyun-Jin Ryu gave up five runs on eight hits in six innings and Paco Rodriguez (0-1) took the loss, facing one batter.

Ellis and Kemp each singled in the first inning to set the table for Ethier’s home run to right field – off the first pitch he saw from Baltimore starter Jason Hammel – for a 3-0 lead. After an Ellis sacrifice fly in the second, Hardy connected for his two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the frame to trim the deficit to 4-2.

Hardy delivered a sacrifice fly to tie it and designated hitter Steve Pearce followed with a single that plated Davis – who had doubled – in the sixth as Baltimore moved ahead 5-4. Ellis drew a walk from Pedro Strop, moved to third on a Kemp single and scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-5 in the seventh.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hammel finished six innings, allowing seven hits and four runs – all in the first two frames. … Los Angeles had won five straight against Baltimore after losing the first meeting. …. Orioles’ leadoff batter Nick Markakis has hits in 14 of 16 games.
