Brewers 9, Diamondbacks 3

Aramis Ramirez went 3-for-4 and delivered a tiebreaking two-run double in a three-run eighth inning as visiting Milwaukee defeated Arizona in the opener of a four-game series.

Ryan Braun, Khris Davis and Scooter Gennett each had two hits and two RBIs with one of Gennett’s hits being a homer. Elian Herrera also had two hits for the Brewers, who had 12 overall and turned three double plays.

Wily Peralta (7-5) allowed three runs and nine hits and struck out six in seven innings to win his third straight start. Will Smith pitched a scoreless eighth and Milwaukee put the game away with three ninth-inning runs.

Braun and Jonathan Lucroy drew two-out walks off Will Harris (0-2) in the eighth and moved up on a wild pitch before Ramirez doubled just inside the third-base line to give Milwaukee a 5-3 lead. Davis added a single that deflected off the glove of Arizona shortstop Chris Owings for the final run of the eighth and Gennett singled in one run and Braun hit a two-run triple in the ninth.

Milwaukee scored twice in the second with the runs scoring on Davis’ triple and a double-play grounder before Arizona went ahead in the bottom of the inning as Roger Kieschnick singled in one run and Brandon McCarthy smacked a two-run single to right-center field. Gennett homered to right-center field off McCarthy (three runs and seven hits in seven innings) in the third to tie the game.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kieschnick was recalled from Triple-A Reno earlier in the day when RHP Bronson Arroyo (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list. … Brewers CF Carlos Gomez sat out with hamstring soreness. … Arizona manager Kirk Gibson was ejected in the ninth inning for disputing a replay challenge that went against the Diamondbacks.
