Ben Revere scored following an error to ignite a five-run 13th inning as visiting Philadelphia posted its fifth victory in seven games.
Revere singled off David Hale (2-2) to lead off the 13th and promptly stole second base. He advanced to third on Jimmy Rollins' flyout and came around to score after Ryan Howard's grounder was misplayed by first baseman Freddie Freeman.
Marlon Byrd followed with an RBI single and Reid Brignac's two-run triple in the 13th capped his three-hit performance for the last-place Phillies. Howard homered to lead off the second, Cole Hamels worked seven strong frames to extend his scoreless innings streak to 23 2/3 and Antonio Bastardo (4-3) pitched two solid innings to pick up the win.
Andrelton Simmons lifted a bloop single to shallow right field against Jonathan Papelbon in the ninth inning to score Justin Upton and forge a 1-1 tie. Freeman collected three hits and Evan Gattis singled to lead off the seventh and extend his career-high hitting streak to 16 games for the Braves, who have dropped eight of their last 13 contests.
Howard opened the scoring by depositing a 1-0 fastball from Julio Teheran over the wall in center field for his team-leading 12th homer of the season and the 45th of his career versus Atlanta. Teheran permitted one run on four hits in eight innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Hours before the contest, the Phillies placed OF Tony Gwynn Jr. on the bereavement list after his Hall-of-Fame father died on Monday. Philadelphia recalled OF Aaron Altherr from Double-A Reading to take Gwynn's spot on the roster. ... Gattis' 16-game hitting streak is a Braves franchise record for a catcher. ...
