Indians 4, Royals 1

Corey Kluber struck out 10 in 8 1/3 innings as host Cleveland defeated Kansas City to win the three-game series.

Yan Gomes hit a two-run homer and Carlos Santana added a solo blast as the Indians won for the fourth time in five games. Michael Brantley also drove in a run as Cleveland sent the Royals to their 10th loss in 16 games.

Kluber (8-6) allowed one run and four hits and issued one walk before departing after 109 pitches. Cody Allen retired the final two batters for his ninth save.

Santana hit a leadoff shot to right field in the second inning off Danny Duffy (5-8) and Gomes connected on his two-run blast to center later in the inning. The Royals got on the board in the fifth when Mike Moustakas homered inside the right-field foul pole.

Cleveland increased the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth on consecutive singles by Jason Kipnis, Asdrubal Cabrera and Brantley. Kansas City’s Eric Hosmer led off the ninth by punching a double inside the left-field line and Kluber struck out Salvador Perez before Allen required just four pitches to get the final two outs.
