Billy Hamilton contributed a two-run triple and David Holmberg picked up his first major-league win as Cincinnati knocked off host Milwaukee.

Brandon Phillips, Jay Bruce and Devin Mesoraco each recorded an RBI as the Reds won for the fourth time in five games. Aramis Ramirez homered for the Brewers, who remained 1 1/2 games behind Pittsburgh for the National League’s second wild card but fell five games behind first-place St. Louis in the NL Central.

Holmberg (1-1) allowed one run and two hits in six innings. Sam LeCure pitched two hitless frames and Jumbo Diaz worked a perfect ninth.

Milwaukee starter Yovani Gallardo (8-10) gave up two runs and four hits in six innings before reliever Zach Duke allowed the Reds to pad their lead. Ryan Ludwick and Jason Bourgeois each singled and scored on Hamilton’s three-base hit into the gap in right-center field and Cincinnati added another run in the eighth off Jimmy Nelson when Todd Frazier doubled and scored on Mesoraco’s single.

The Reds loaded the bases in the fourth against Gallardo and pushed across two runs. Phillips walked to force in the first and Bruce drove in the second with a sacrifice fly to left.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Frazier went 3-for-4 after going 3-for-19 over his previous five games. … Brewers LF Khris Davis (forearm) returned to the lineup after a two-game absence and went 0-for-4. … Holmberg has allowed one run and six hits in 11 2/3 innings over his last two starts.
